The car buyers in the country are at present obsessed with compact sedans and compact SUVs. It is really interesting to see how the automakers race against each other bringing out newer car models. The country’s favourite brand Maruti Suzuki also is ready with its very first compact SUV – the Vitara Brezze. Unveiled at the recent Auto Expo at New Delhi, the car is now slated for an official launch on the 21st of March.
An overview of the model
The 5 seater SUV commands awesome road presencewith its tall stance, receding roofline and flared wheel arches. A bold chrome grille flanked by projector headlights with an LED strip, strong shoulder lines, wraparound tail lights and contrasting coloured roof all add up to its beauty. It is an extremely practical car to drive in and around the city with its compact dimensions. Inside, the car is expected to have a gadget filled roomy cabin with all modern day comfort features like an advanced music system, climate control unit, remote fuel filler, power windows, leather seats, sunroof, rear defogger, electric door mirrors on both sides, remote boot, steering mounting controls, rear armrest with cup holders, foldable rear seats and many more. Maruti however offers the Vitara Brezze only with a diesel engine. It will be equipped by a 1.3litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 88.5 bhp and a peak toque of 200 Nm. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or maybe even an AMT unit on option. It is expected to deliver a high mileage of 24-25 kmpl making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in its segment. A petrol variant is being tested which may make it to the roads soon. The SUV measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.
There are few automakers who can challenge Maruti Suzuki when it comes to correct pricing. The prices for Vitara Brezze are expected to be in the range of Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs, making it the first car of this type within this price range. Likewise it is going to be cheaper than most other SUVs in this segment. This aggressive pricing backed by Maruti’s strong sales reputation and wide network, should give a tough competition to popular cars like the Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Mahindra TUV300 and even the new Hyundai Creta. Maruti has reportedly opened bookings for the sub-four metre SUV across the country at an initial amount of Rs 21000 only.
